Washington DC

Nate and I had the WONDERFUL opportunity to travel to Washington DC at the end of September/early October.  He had a conference for work and Emma and I tagged along.  A HUGE thank you to my mom, Nate's mom and Nate's sister who watched the 3 other girls for us.  It was such a nice (and quiet!) trip!

Emma was able to "see" lots of new places and went on her first plane ride, too! After we got off the plane our first stop was Arlington National Cemetery.

After a quick bite to eat we made a stop at the Temple.  It is beautiful!

A nice quiet dinner in the National Harbor area where our hotel and Nate's conference were located.  Look at those two cuties :)

While Nate had his conference, Emma and I took the shuttle to the National Mall.  It ended up being a perfect day to be outdoors! In addition to walking most of the way up and down the mall to see the Capitol and Washington Monument, we visited the American History Museum, the Air and Space Museum, the Botanic Gardens, and a few other outdoor art gardens.

Then we got to spend a day with Nate! We rode the ferry from Alexandria to the Mall area.  It was fun to ride on the boat and see so much of the Mall and surrounding areas from the water. We toured around the Mall again with Nate and also went to see the White House. I was bummed we didn't get any good pictures of the 3 of us in front of the White House.  As we were by the fence and trying to find somebody who spoke English (a surprisingly hard task!) to take our family picture, a security guard made everybody leave the area!!! Oh well!  We still got a couple of pictures from across the street.

A WHITE squirrel! We also saw a black squirrel and a gray squirrel.  We just have brown ones at home :)
The girls had LOTS of fun at home!  Here they are decorating cookies with cousins.
